Margie Bergstrom
Margie Bergstrom graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1970. In 1975 she started doing taxes and found her true calling. With a little help from H&R Block, she became an Enrolled Agent (EA) in 1981. The EA designation, which was earned by taking a two day test administered by the IRS, gives her the same status as an Attorney or CPA in matters of representation before the IRS.
In 1984 she started Bergstrom Tax in her home, and now rents office space where she employs her husband Bill, her nephew Brian, and six other professionals. The people at Bergstrom Tax take pride in giving a little extra attention to everyone they help, and have earned the Angie’s List good service award for the last three years.
Margie also owns Sauk Rapids Tax Solutions and Nokomis Printing and writes newsletters and organizers that are sold to other preparers across the country.
She and Bill live in Minneapolis and have two grown children, Merry and Dave, and one grandchild. She enjoys sailing, gardening, travel, food, the good life, and doing most anything. She loves her work and doesn’t plan on retiring until someone buys her a 40-foot boat to sail around the world.
Bill Bergstrom
Bill Bergstrom is Margie’s husband. He has been involved in the income tax world since 1986, handling tax return data entry for Margie for nine years before joining her in 1995 as a second preparer for the office. This will be Bill’s fourteenth year as a “full-timer.” He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota – Duluth, and a childhood resident of Duluth as well, moving to the Twin Cities after their marriage in 1970. They have two children, Merry and David. In August 2008, their first grandchild, Ilsa, was born to Merry and her husband Steve. Bill enjoys sailing with Margie and their friends, music, playing the banjo, and riding his motorcycle.
Brian Bennett
Brian has been working at Bergstrom Tax since 1998. He started out helping his aunt and uncle (Margie and Bill) during the tax season after graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in advertising. After five years in the advertising world, Brian discovered that taxes were his true passion and joined Bergstrom Tax full-time in 2004.
Brian lives in Shoreview with his wife Lindsey, their cats Freddie and Cyrano, and their dog Jameson. When he’s not working, he enjoys traveling, playing tennis, video games, movies, following sports (especially Gopher football) and playing fantasy football.
